Become a Resource Parent

Resource parenting (previously known as foster parenting) can be a very rewarding experience for both the parents and child. As a resource parent, you will be able to make a huge difference in a child’s life by taking them into your home!

Sought After Foster Family Agency strives to provide safe and loving homes for our foster children. We have potential resource parent(s) go through specific education and training to help equip them as much as possible to bring trafficked children into their care. This process is done to ensure a safe and adequate home for our foster children, as well as to equip, train, and properly support our resource parents. We provide interest meetings, CSEC education, certification, trauma focused training classes, and much more to our resource parents.

Once you have filled out and submitted the application, our Sought After staff will email you to set up an interview with our administrator and executive director. Interviews are preferred to be in-person at our Scotts Valley office location. However, zoom interviews are also an option. We are flexible in working out whatever form is best for the family.

Step 3: Background Check

During the application process, you will have to provide a background check through Guardian. All paperwork and instructions will be provided by Sought After

All interested families/individuals must take and pass a background check through Guardian, the system used for foster family agencies. All paperwork will be filled out and provided by Sought After staff. The family/individual interested in becoming a resource family with our agency must pay for the fingerprint fee out of pocket (usually $15). However, If the family/individual passes the background check, Sought After will reimburse the family/individual for the background check fees.

Any and all questions regarding the background check are welcome.

Step 4: Training and Inspection

All resource families are required to go through our 20-hour CSEC focused training, be certified in CPR, and go through a housing inspection

All potential resource families/parents must go through a total of 40-hours of training after they have passed their background check. This training includes the basic resource parent training provided by each individual resource families home counties. Once the basic training is completed, families/individuals will then take Sought After’s 20 hour CSEC-focused , trauma informed parenting training where they will be training on what trafficking is, what is normal when a child comes out of the life with this kind of trauma, what they can expect, and how to prepare. Sought After staff surround each family even after the training to ensure they are supported.

During the training, there will also be a housing inspection of the residence of the potential resource family/resource parent. The training must be complete and the residence must pass the housing inspection before families/individuals can move to step 5.
