Scotts Valley, CA — January 21, 2026

On January 21, 2026, the City of Scotts Valley officially proclaimed January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month, recognizing the ongoing efforts to combat trafficking and support survivors within the community.

The proclamation was presented by the Scotts Valley Mayor and City Council and proudly accepted by Arukah Project’s Executive Director, Loreal, and Deputy Director, Natasha, alongside members of the organization’s team. The moment marked a meaningful acknowledgment of Arukah Project’s work in prevention, survivor protection, and community education.

A Community United Against Trafficking

The proclamation reinforces the city’s commitment to standing with survivors and actively working to prevent human trafficking. Through this recognition, Scotts Valley joins a broader movement to raise awareness, strengthen local partnerships, and promote education around this critical issue.

Arukah Project expressed gratitude for the continued support from local leaders and partners, including the Scotts Valley Police Department and Chief Rutherford, whose collaboration plays an important role in protecting vulnerable individuals and strengthening community response efforts.

Continued Recognition for Arukah Project

This honor follows another recent milestone for the organization. Arukah Project was named Organization of the Year by the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce, recognizing its leadership in advocacy and its ongoing commitment to supporting survivors of human trafficking.

Centering Survivor Voices

A defining element of Arukah Project’s work is its survivor-led approach. Represented at the proclamation by Deputy Director Natasha, a survivor herself, the organization continues to emphasize the importance of sharing lived experiences as a powerful tool in combating trafficking and fostering understanding.

By elevating survivor voices, Arukah Project not only raises awareness but also builds pathways toward healing, justice, and long-term restoration.
