Survivor Stories: A Life Reclaimed
THE IMPACT OF ARUKAH PROJECT’S ASSISTANCE
On our Survivor Stories page, we share the real, unfiltered voices of trafficking survivors whose lives have been forever changed through Arukah Project’s support. Through heartfelt letters, personal testimonials, and powerful quotes written in their own words, we bear witness to the immense courage it takes to escape exploitation — and to the difference that truly compassionate, trauma-informed care can make. Our survivors describe our advocates spending nine hours on a rescue, staying by their side for over twelve hours in a hospital, and standing up in courtrooms when no one else was willing to act. Together, these stories reveal both the urgent need for specialized survivor care and the life-changing impact of being genuinely seen, believed, and fought for. This page is more than a collection of testimonials — it is a testament to resilience and a reminder of why everything we do at Arukah Project matters.
To whom it may concern,
The Arukah Project saved my life. They spent nine hours to rescue me from my trafficker’s house. I would be dead without them. I didn’t have to pretend to be someone I wasn’t. They didn’t ask me for proof or dismiss me because I was hours away from them. It didn’t matter what I said or did, they made sure I had everything I needed. But because they didn’t have a place, they had to send me somewhere who knows nothing about trafficking, and it really traumatized me even more and has made things worse for me. I wish Arukah Project had a place of their own. A place where I would feel safe and understood.
They haven’t left my side since day one. If they had a place I would definitely go there because I trust them and they saved me and helped me in different ways that I needed. I’m so thankful but I wanted to stay with them where I felt safe and trusted. I never felt safe until I met Arukah Project. I really couldn’t have done this without them and all the help they have given to me.
I prayed for a way out and they were the first ones to answer and rescue me without asking a bunch of questions. They knew and made sure I made it out alive. They even stayed with me at the hospital for over 12 hours when I was first rescued. They never left my side. I was so scared but felt safe and that I could trust them. I became more like family over a job or just a client to them.
I’m so thankful to be alive. They never forced me to do anything like some places will do and make you feel less like yourself. I’m so happy that I had the courage to reach out to Arukah Project. They answered me within five minutes. They knew about my trauma and how to help me with all my needs. They offer me the resources I need in my trauma recovery. They had to find me a place to live.
The place I’m at now doesn’t know how to deal with trafficking victims. They don’t understand my needs or how I act. I really want Arukah Project to have a place of their own. I would feel safer and be able to heal in ways that I can’t when I’m at a place that doesn’t work with trafficking victims. Arukah Project knows me and my trauma and will give me the care I so desperately need. I am so thankful to have them.
Sincerely,
A trafficking survivor
“Through Arukah Project, I am becoming the me I always wanted to be but didn’t know it was possible.”
“Their love shone through all my tears and got me through some of my darkest times.”
“I appreciate you as a truly warm caring person who shows Gods love. Life is beautiful even though sometimes it’s not easy. I will have a more meaningful life now”
It’s almost impossible to express just how deeply Arukah Project has changed, and truly saved, my life. When I finally escaped the man who kept me imprisoned as a sex slave, I felt completely invisible—no one believed my story, and those who did were paralyzed by fear. The terror he spread was so real that even organizations meant to help people like me turned me away, admitting they were too afraid to get involved. I felt even more hopeless and alone, convinced that no one could help me.
But then everything changed when I found Arukah Project. Instead of closing their doors, they immediately sent a victim advocate to meet me. I remember begging her not to leave me alone, and she stayed—she never once abandoned me, no matter how dark things felt. Arukah’s team stood beside me every step of the way, providing unwavering support when I needed it most.
Their justice advocate was my lifeline through the overwhelming legal process. She didn’t just tell me what to do—she held my hand through every terrifying moment, helping me obtain a restraining order so I could breathe a little easier knowing I was finally safe. She also guided me in proving to law enforcement and the courts that I was a victim, not just another case to be dismissed. When everyone else was too terrified to testify, both my victim advocate and justice advocate showed up to court to testify for me. Their courage gave me the strength to keep fighting.
If it weren’t for Arukah Project, I truly believe I would still be trapped in that nightmare of abuse and violence, or worse. Their compassion and dedication have been a beacon of hope during my darkest hours. I feel blessed every single day to have found a place like Arukah—a place that not only helps survivors, but believes in us, fights for us, and never lets us go.
Although I’m still working through deep wounds and the journey to healing is long, I’m finally free to imagine a life beyond pain. Each day is a little more bearable because I know Arukah is there. For so long, I believed I was completely alone, that no one could possibly understand what I’d endured. But Arukah Project showed me that I’m not alone—and for the first time, I feel truly seen and understood but most importantly, I AM FREE.
“When I got off the plane I was immediately greeted and although chaotic, the women of Arukah came through and made sure I had a suitable and safe place to sleep until I could get into more permanent housing.”
“It’s been a really long journey and so many moving parts, and I think if I had been left to navigate all these moving parts on my own, without the help of Arukah, I would have been left in the dust.”
“You inspire me. I would not be the woman I’m becoming without Christ’s love through you”
Regarding our T2F Training Platform:
“Take it from me, who had the experience I hope nobody ever goes through. Adolescents need to be aware of what’s going on. Otherwise, it will leave them right where I was powerless, scared, and uneducated.”
